Aletta Louise ‘Lagu’ Album Launch

Aletta Louise (aka Jessica Scott) is an artist based on Cammeraygal Land in so-called Australia. Classically trained, and having undertaken studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Royal Academy of Music, London, her background as an artist encompasses decades of performances spanning from experimental and improvised works to classical music and composition. Aletta Louise is a project launched in 2026, designed specifically for her output as an electronic composer and vocalist.

Lagu means Song or Melody in Indonesia; it is also found in Old English poetry to describe the Sea, Ocean or Moving Water. It was an album mostly written whilst living in London, and missing my home and family a great deal, where I grew up on Darug Land in so-called Australia, a vast ocean away from the UK. The title is also a tribute to my Indo and English/German heritage, a collection of cultures and histories situated far away from one another. The Pacific Ocean links these cultures, both geographically and tracing through my family history.

I would spend hours outside where possible while living in London, collecting sounds from the traffic outside to synthesise into remnants of, and love letters, to the Pacific Oceanand the places that remind me of home. This became somewhat of an obsession to get me through two long Winters overseas. Visiting home and family once in the long time spent abroad, I collected and recorded files to further this experimentation with sound and environment (The Birdsong Interludes and Fire). Lorikeets was recorded several years before my move to London.

Lagu was created as a love letter to home, whatever that may feel like in a specific time or place; an album I created to dream, relax, or dive into memory.

Uma Volkmer & Mya Hill

In a first time collaboration, Mya Hill and Uma Volkmer explore a dense sonic world through reverberation and resonant frequencies.

Working beyond the traditional use of the trumpet they incorporate found objects and the response of snare drum, collaborating through reflections of each other and reverberation of sound in space.

Uma Volkmer - trumpet
Mya Hill - trumpet
