Abacá is a durable leaf fibre that is often woven into materials such as fabrics and twine, used for several purposes including clothing, carpets and rope. In its raw and natural state it is coarse and stiff, yet in finer strands can be soft to the touch. Abacá symbolises the resilience, versatility and interconnectedness of humanity.

This project is a compilation of various original works that aim to explore the emotional gravity of human connection. Derived from various personal experiences, the composer Noah Mejia seeks to unveil parts of his human voice and identity. Just as abacá is woven, the project interweaves the simplicity of songwriting and arranging and the spontaneity of group improvisation, in order to cultivate a personal voice underpinned by honesty, sincerity and vulnerability. The project attempts to traverse a variety of acoustic textures and soundscapes, through a conscientious blend of inspiration from various contemporary jazz, folk and indie artists.
