Chris Cody Mountain to Sea

Chris Cody - piano
Sandy Evans - saxophones
Lloyd Swanton - double bass
Nic Cecire - drums

“a novel and spacious soundworld…superb …memorable…the leader’s piano is lucid and incisive, setting a high standard for the rest of the band” Andy Hamilton, Jazz Journal UK

“Freedom and suppleness…ultra hip groove…rousing!”. Des Cowley, Rhythms Magazine

Mountain To Sea is an all star group of jazz musicians from different backgrounds that takes the listener on a truly exciting voyage! The music they play when they come together is organic, exciting, and without boundaries. As Chris notes “we love the journey each piece takes both us and the audience on”. The music was conceived as a lyrical and upbeat response to turbulent times.

The music combines jazz with African and French influences - music that has long fascinated Chris who lived in France for many years. There are minimalist and trance elements in bassist Lloyd Swanton’s work with the Necks, and saxophonist Sandy Evans has long explored Indian music in her various music projects. Nic Cecire is always tasteful and grooving. They combine Chris’s compositions with free group and solo improvisations to take the listener on a journey rich in groove and melody.
