Timothy Constable 1971: In A Silent Way

Saturday 14 March 2026 6:00pm
Percussionist Timothy Constable presents an eclectic program of music composed in 1971
The early 70s saw a turbulent changing of the cultural guard.
The deaths of Shostakovich, Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and the disbanding of the Beatles was set against Miles Davis’ jazz/rock fusion revolution and the birth of heavy metal (Black Sabbath) and techno (Kraftwerk).
Music was moving in a million directions at once, like in Joe Zawinul’s In a Silent Way (made famous by Miles Davis) and André Jolivet’s quixotic Heptade, performed here by Constable and Principal Trumpet David Elton. [emus notes that In a Silent Way was recorded Feb 1969.]
