Hailed as “Australia’s most exciting young cellist” (Limelight), Basel/Berlin-based Australian musician James Morley works largely as a soloist and chamber musician, catering to all styles from early music to experimental improvisation.
A Young Classical Artist Trust artist since 2024, James’s multi-faceted career includes; performing solo recitals at Wigmore Hall in London, Berlin Konzerthaus, Sydney Opera House, UKARIA, and more; touring all of Australia’s major concert halls with Jean-Guihen Queyras; premiering a solo work by Liza Lim; being artist in residence at Harvard University; guest-mentoring at Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik; being principal cello of Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective and Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra; releasing an experimental EP with renowned bassist/vocalist Helen Svoboda; and playing in ensembles and festivals across Australia, Europe, the UK, the US, and Asia.
He has studied under Nicolas Altstaedt, Thomas Demenga, Imke Frank, Howard Penny, and more.
