Jessie Newling is a composer and performer based in Eora Sydney. Studying Composition, Historical Performance in Voice and now Digital Music and Media at Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she bridges old and new sound worlds. She extends the possibilities of her voice, using digital processing and effects with custom made controllers, exploring old world gesture and expression with modern music technology.

Imagining a place of memory and longing, experimental improvisations flow into movement and song. The minutiae of everyday life - found sounds, field recordings and the textures of her own voice are woven into her work. To accompany herself she builds these electroacoustic elements into virtual generative instruments which respond to live input and, with the movement of a hand, freeze and warp tempo and timbre.

CAxRA is an electronic composer and audiovisual artist based in Eora Sydney, having recently concluded her degree in Bachelor of Music: Digital Music and Media at the Sydney Conservatorium.

Her graduate project ‘Inversion / Refract’ is an immersive listening experience exploring the patterns of human development through biological natural systems. Her focus on layering unique sounds and textures influences a digital ecosystem that balances natural materiality and a fascination with electronic hardware.

The sonic narrative of CAxRAs work integrates generative systems with sound material and voice overlays to create visceral experiences of texture, movement, and time. Across 35 minutes, the listener sits in an uninterrupted suspended experience, at times being affected by sound through vibration or emotion. More deeply, this represents a relationship between biological origins and the expression of human experiences through an intricate network of patterns.

Duration: 90 minutes, inclusive of 15-minute interval
