CARL DEWHURST TRIO + LISA PARROTT (NYC) 'AVICENNIA' ALBUM LAUNCH
CARL DEWHURST has been a stalwart of the Sydney jazz scene for over thirty years & is considered one of Australia’s finest jazz & improvising guitarists. He has played with a Who’s Who of Australian jazz artists & has released over a dozen albums of original music as a leader or collaborator. His latest album, Avicennia, features his trio with special guest, Brooklyn-based alto saxophonist LISA PARROTT.
Dewhurst & Parrott have collaborated for decades in both Australia & the US, often working with long-time associate Cameron Undy in groups such as Happy Tribe & NUDE. Dewhurst also appeared on Parrott’s highly acclaimed album ‘Round Tripper’, recorded in NYC.
LISA PARROTT has been based in the USA for many years & won the 2016 Down Beat Critics’ Poll Rising Star award for baritone saxophone. She continues to be included yearly in Down Beat’s critics’ & readers’ polls. Her performance credits include Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Diane Schuur, Johnny Mandel, Skitch Henderson & the New York Pops, Cindy Blackman, Gunther Schuller, Marty Ehrlich & Allison Miller.
Parrott’s chemistry with Dewhurst has been widely praised.
