JETSETS 2023 FINALE: Jim Denley (As Weather) + Ysk/Monica Brooks/Rory Brown

Wednesday, December 13, 2023
11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Oh boy, has it been a year of incredible, inspiring and adventurous music for us at Jetsets! We’re closing it out with an extra special lineup of musicians who really take things outside the norm, and in the case of Jim Denley, he’ll literally be taking us outside, across the sports field, and into the trees for this performance! Please dress for the weather, and maybe bring something to sit on!

Doors open: 7:30 Music from 8pm Set 1: Jim Denley: As Weather (we’ll be going across the road, across the sports fields and into the trees for this) Set 2: Ysk/Monica Brooks/Rory Brown (back to the indoors)

Jim Denley: As Weather

His work emphasises eco-musicality, spontaneity, and co-creation with musickin (human and more-than-human).

From 1989 to 2003 he worked with the text/music group Machine for Making Sense. He’s deeply involved with the Splinter Orchestra, an improvising ensemble defined by its radical inclusivity.

In Weather Volume 1: The Hidden Valley (splitrec 31) documents his engagement with the Budawang Mountains, south of Nowra and his current major project is a new set of recordings With Weather Volume 2 Gadigal Country (splitrec 32).

Jim’s set will be outside; in and with nature, so we will follow him across the sports field into the trees. Please dress for the weather, and consider bringing something portable to sit on.

Ysk/Monica Brooks/Rory Brown

Ysk plays guitar, drums, modular synth, and occasionally sings while working as an antiracist, volunteering as a boxing coach, NDIS-caring for a friend, and ponder upon the abstracts of existing.

Ysk asked their old friends, Monica Brooks and Rory Brown, to play in a trio format. How fun! How will they make sense of electricity, strings, air, and gestures? Texturally, of course. Loudness control is also a key but that is only a part of grand-schematic textures.

We look forward to playing for your listening.
