Opus Now #27: Clocks & Clouds - Haydn SQ Opus 77 n.2 - Runa Cara + FSA/BW
Opus Now #27 returns in 2023 on Friday March 3rd!
Featuring microtonal music from Terumi Narushima and Kraig Grady Haydn’s final string quartet Opus 77 n.2 in F major Runa Cara + FSA/BW play folk and experimental music
Haydn’s final string quartet is both complex and contemplative in its core. Written in 1799, the same year that the then 29 year-old Beethoven finished his own Opus 18 set of 6 string quartets, it is a work that signals the end of an era and the beginning of something new.
Clock and Clouds are musicians Kraig Grady and Terumi Narushima whose acoustic performances comprise specially ‘mesotonally’ tuned vibraphone and harmonium. These instruments, with their special pure harmonic tuning, explore the beauty of room resonances via ancient sacred scales and multi-dimensional geometry realised in sound.
Runa Cara Irish-Australian percussionist and singer-songwriter Bonnie Stewart (aka. Bonniesongs) and Danish-Australian cellist and nyckelharpist Freya Schack-Arnott collaborate as Runa Cara, performing ethereal folk songs set to strings, percussion, harmonies and loops.
FSA/BW Collaborations from Freya and Ben focus on melodies of expressive resonance, spectral tunings and pulsating beatings.
