Ephemera Ensemble is a musical exploration of celestial landscapes such as pulsars, craters, planetary atmospheres, stars, sun and void. Merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds, the ensemble is led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass/loop pedal), Will Gilbert (trumpet) and Carl St Jacques (viola). The performance includes freely improvised pieces and NASA recordings of electromagnetic waves from planets and stars provide the backdrop soundtrack compiled by astronomer Professor Paul Francis along with projections of space probe footage. Formed in 2015, this ensemble has had a series of successful shows around Sydney (Seymour Centre, Venue 505, Foundry 616, Camelot Lounge) and were featured in the Extended Play Festival of New Music at City Recital Hall 2018 and at the Sydney International Womens’ Jazz Festival 2017.
