Programme
Opus Now Quartet - Beethoven “Razumovsky” Op. 59 no.3 in C major
Isabelle Duthoit / Franz Hautzinger - Free Improvisation
Skinny Legions

We continue the saga of revolutionary Beethoven, meets revolutionary modernism, on Sunday, February 11th at 7:30pm, at Alpha Gallery.

Welcoming two of Europe’s most original and compelling improvisers, the vocalist/clarinetist Isabelle Duthoit and trumpeter Franz Hautzinger, performing their brilliant and haunting free improvisations. Their music is utterly unworldly, yet deeply familiar. Their combination of delayed trumpet, clarinet and a variety of vocal techniques, conjures up sounds from early chant to post-apocalyptic sensations. Bring a valium for this one.

As we delve into the sublime middle period of Beethoven’s String Quartet writing, The Razumovsky Opus 59 n.3 in C major String Quartet is a work of sheer originality. Quotations of Bach, Mozart and even his own Diabelli Variations, carried through a melodic and harmonic force that only Beethoven could produce, makes this a greatly appealing work.

And lastly, we are delighted to welcome Sydney’s very own Glenn Hopper and his incredibly talented band Skinny Legions, with Georgia Webb on cello, Billy “Lil’ Bol” Ward on saxophone, and Glenn on vocals/keyboards. In a trio of unlikely instruments, they put a fresh take on good old indie folk.
