SET 1: Jack Stoneham Jack Stoneham is an improvising saxophonist. He is mainly interested in exploring rhythm as a means of having a structural reference point for improvised sounds placed in time. He attempts to combine this with a language developed from exploiting the saxophone’s natural strengths.
SET 2: Improper Citation Improper Citation features current jazz students from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music; Charlie Sundborn (Saxophone), Miles Rooney (Trumpet), Matt Harris (Piano), Oscar Peterson (Bass) and Chloe Kim (Drums). They formed in 2016 after discovering their common interest in jazz-influenced experimental improvisations, as well as the sounds and textures from diverse musical traditions and rhythms.
Influenced by many jazz improvisers, their music focuses are on understanding ways to improvise freely and effectively in an ensemble setting, as well as experimenting with cross-cultural collaborative dialogues and uniting their jazz background with individual tastes that span various genres (such as hip-hop, electronic music, 90s rock and traditional classical music).
